Liftboats have become an increasing part of the industry. They are fast, mobile, can work in shallow water, and carry out a multitude of different operations. This includes platform repair, workover, P & A (plut and abandon), wire line, slick line, completion operations, blasting and demolotion.

Most liftboats are under 200 tons and carry a crew consisting of captains, mates, cooks, Able Bodied Seamen (AB's), Ordinary Seamen (OS's) and deckhands. Usually the boat captain is also the crane operator, but on some jobs extra crane operators and rigger / roustabouts are on board.

To show you how big some of these liftboats are, notice the personnel basket at the top left of the picture. This one has just jackep up and is getting ready to put personnel on the platform.
